Why Make Valentine Crafts with Preschoolers?

If you’re a regular Fun-A-Day reader, you know how much I love process art in the classroom! That being said, I’m not averse to crafts.

I only dislike crafts in the classroom when adults insist those crafts look exactly the same kid to kid, leaving no room for creativity. And don’t get me started on adults who “fix” kids’ crafts so they look a certain way.

But back to the topic at hand – why should you make crafts with preschoolers? Well, crafts let children practice a variety of skills, like:

  • Fine motor skills
  • Patterns
  • Color identification
  • Cause and effect
  • Saturation (and oversaturation)
  • Hand strengthening
  • Using scissors
  • Following directions
  • Shapes

You can use crafts to teach even more concepts than that! Plus, and this is the most important reason, crafts are fun! Many children love to craft and create, and there’s always room in education for some fun.

Materials for Your Crafty Valentine Activities

When I plan craft projects with the kids, there are a few preparatory steps I like to take ahead of time. First, I like to write the steps to the craft, the adaptations I’ll need to make for particular students, and a list of materials that we will need.

You can find instructions and supply lists in the links provided below. But maybe you want to stock up on some specific supplies to use for any valentine-themed activity. If that’s the case, check out the list below for some great products to have on hand for your Valentine’s Day crafts for preschoolers (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):

This is just a general list to get you started. The possibilities are endless!
