There really isn’t much to say about the silliness on this plate. It’s a waffle covered in chocolate covered in fruit. It’s dessertpizza for breakfast. It’s delicious. It will make the day aheadmore fun.Enoughsaid.

My waffle maker and I are still getting to know each other. Like I’m learning that it likes to burn my hand with steamwhen I leave the waffle a little too long. And that ‘non-stick’ doesn’t really meanno sticking. And that it likes to be cleaned with much care, runninga Q-tip ineach crevasse because the plates are not removable.

It is a needy contraption, but the waffles are still worth it. Especially when smeared with chocolate!

I seriously hope that you have a more exciting fruit selection in your fridge than I did when you make this. I only had strawberries. I had just used up my last two bananas in the chocolate sauce, but I dug in my pantry and found freeze dried bananas…which were weird on a waffle. So please, please be a better fruit-topping planner than I was!

Ingredients

Scale

  • WAFFLE
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup gluten-free flour (or oat flour)
  • 1 cup non-dairy milk
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • CHOCOLATE SAUCE
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 tbsps cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
  • TOPPINGS: strawberries (raspberries, blueberries, bananas, kiwi etc.)

Instructions

  1. FOR THE WAFFLE: Blend all the ingredients to make a thick batter.
  2. Prepare them according to your waffle maker’s instructions. It makes about three 6 inch waffles in my waffle maker.
  3. FOR THE CHOCOLATE SAUCE: Blend the bananas and cacao on high until creamy.
  4. Spread the sauce on the waffles, top with fruit, enjoy!

Reality…

Girl 😉 You’ve been holding out on me! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
And….confession…I never really “wash” my iron. I just wipe it down. But it never gets dirty. Thankfully the waffles always comes out clean!

It’s taken me a little while to get my waffle mojo on, but I’m getting there! I need to switch to your cleaning method, a little leftover waffle-ness on those plates won’t hurt anyone 😉

You really make me wish I had a waffle iron at home 😉 But that’s not going to happen in the near future, I’m afraid. Our kitchen is way too full already as it is 😀 I love simple recipes, and I have to try your chocolate sauce. Oh, andI really want to make your chocolate bits again, I’m really craving them right now!

I was just talking to Bianca who doesn’t have a waffle maker either and it occurred to me that you could probably do the same thing with a big pancake…just an idea! But I know what you mean about kitchen space, I actually had a cardboard box of pantry items on the floor right outside my kitchen for a while because I ran out of cabinet space 😀 lol Thanks Kat <3

Thank you Brandi! I would’ve felt a little bad calling it a breakfast recipe if those were marshmallows, but I certainly wouldn’t say no to a few Dandies plopped on top if it was going to be dessert 😉

YUM! Chocolate and waffles are one heavenly combination, but I’ve never tried making my own waffles before. I really need to though after seeing this delicious recipe! I need one of these now! Time for me to find a waffle maker.

If you can make pancakes, you can make waffles! I didn’t invest in a waffle maker for a while because they’re such a uni-tasking kitchen tool, but sometimes pancakes get boring haha 😀 Thanks Harriet!

Such a fun recipe! Dessert for breakky – my fave! Or breakfast for dessert, another favourite!
I totally thought those were marshmallows on it but then realized it was freeze dried bananas haha!
My waffle maker and I have a very rocky relationship. It likes to rip my waffles in half often and doesn’t like to let go of the waffles either. Cleaning with a Q-tip is a good tip though! I’ve been using a chop stick.

My waffle maker rips them in half too sometimes! It’s annoying! Sometimes I just let it rip and then eat the remains right off of the waffle maker, or if it seems like it’s going to rip when I open it is I unplug the entire thing and let it cool closed for like 5 minutes and then try to open it and it usually comes out okay. Waffle making shouldn’t require so much strategy, but I suppose that’s what I get for getting the cheap one off of amazon 😀 haha And next time I make this for dessert, those are going to be actual marshmallows 😉

The chocolate sauce is about as easy as it gets, I use it on all sorts of things!
Yay finally someone else who actually has a waffle maker! 😀 I keep getting so many comments of people who want to get a waffle maker but don’t actually have one, but they really open up the breakfast possibilities. And as always, I think this would be a hit with kids too!
