A blanket design based on the traditional Granny Square. Colours are a beautiful mix of browns, pinks and blues. Cosy up with your favourite hot drink under this wonderful blanket.

Materials
Crochet Hook:4mm or size needed to achieve gauge(I used a 3.5mm hook)
Yarn:DK weight yarn in eight colours, 295m for each of six colours and 590m in two further colours. The sample uses Stylecraft Special DK in the following: 1 ball of(100g)Powder Pink (P), 1 ball (100g) Duck Egg (Du), 1 ball (100g) Denim (De), 1 ball (100g) Stone (St), 1 ball (100g) Mocha (M), 1 ball (100g) Silver (Si)and 2 balls (2 x 100g) of Walnut (W) and 2 balls (2 x 100g) of Cream (C).

Notes on the Granny Squares
The pattern is based on the traditional Granny Square.The Granny Square uses groups of treble crochet to form ‘treble clusters’. It is a really simple technique and suitable for a beginner.There are many different ways to make a Granny Square – this pattern has one chain stitch in each corner. The pattern also suggests you turn the work over after each round – I find this helps to keep the square even and it also makes the work reversible.
There are 25 Granny Squares to make. Each one is different.
Granny Square Pattern (UK terms)(colours as for square A)
FoundationUsing Silver yarn, ch4, join with ss in first ch to form a ring (alternatively you can use a magic ring).
Round 1Continue with Silver yarn, Ch3 (counts as first tr), 2tr in ring, (ch1, 3tr) 3 times, ch1, join with ss in 3rd ch of beg-ch.Fasten off.

Round 2Turn work over.Pull up a loop of Powder Pink yarn in any ch1 corner space.Ch3 (counts as first tr), 2tr into same space, *(3tr, ch1, 3tr) in next ch1 corner space*, repeat from *to* twice more, 3tr in corner space where you started, ch1, ss into 3rdch of beg-ch. Fasten off.

Rounds 6-10Repeat as for round 5
Work 10 rounds of each square. You need to make 25 squares in total. The colour order I used is as follows, but you can choose your own order or randomly pick the colours. All of the squares either have Walnut or Cream for round 11.
Round 11 Repeat as for round 5 but join to the adjacent squares using the ‘join-as-you-go’ method (which means slip stitching to the adjacent square after each set of treble clusters). A photo tutorial on how I do this can be found here. Alternatively you can complete round 11 and then sew the squares together. Arrange the squares as follows:
Border
The border is really simple. It is 8 rows of treble clusters. You can use whichever colours you have left, I have listed the colours that I used below. I came very close to not having enough Mocha for the 6th round of the border – so work out which colours you have plenty of.
Border round 1Using Stone (St) yarn pull up a loop in any ch1 corner space Ch3 (counts as first tr), 2tr into same space, work along the side of the blanket inserting *3tr in each space formed between the treble clusters from the squares below. When you come to the join between the two squares insert the treble cluster in the slip stitch that was formed when joining. Work (3tr, ch1, 3tr)* in the corner and then repeat from *to* until you reach the start of the round, 3tr in corner space where you started, ch1, ss into 3rdch of beg-ch.
Border round 2repeat as above using Duck Egg (Du).
Border round 3repeat as above using Cream (C).
Border round 4repeat as above using Silver (Si).
Border round 5repeat as above using Powder Pink (P).
Border round 6repeat as above using Mocha (M).
Border rounds 7 and 8repeat using Walnut (W). Fasten off.
