So I plug in my Xbox Controller, load up DeSmuME, click Config > Control Config, but when I move a stick or press a button on the xbox controller, nothing happens, it acts like there is no button input. All other emulators and games work just fine with the controller, so it's likely not something with the controller or drivers.

Howdy, I've enjoyed playing the NDS emulator for a long time, but recently I bought a new "XBox Series X EnWired Nebula" controller and when I try to config that controller to the buttons of the DeSmuME_0.9.11_x86, it acts funny on me. For instance, when I press B for the B button, it registers it as Space and skips down two buttons to the Y button, and when I press L for the L button, it shows up as control with a red background. It's like the latest NDS emulator can't handle the newest Xbox controller. My computer has Windows 10 version 21H1 installed and the controller I'm trying to config with the NDS emulator is the "Xbox Enhanced Wired Controller" supplied by "PowerA". I know I'm repeating myself here, I'm just giving out as much information as I can. If you have any ideas for this problem, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Nobody knows why this happens. These rumors have been driving me crazy for years. I can't make it happen, myself. If you want to be a hero, you can find a programmer, install visual studio, and debug it. If you can repro it outside of steam, that would help simplify matters (maybe 100% of people with this problem have been launching it through steam and none of them ever told me, that's just how it is sometimes). I think what's happening is that we're turning input commands to WM_USER+X messages some other junk on the system is sending those, too. I would blame hotkey managers and stuff, but steam's involvement is interesting. That's just the kind of thing that would do it. Now that I type all this out, it makes me wonder if we could put some kind of a "cookie" in the WM_USER messages that no other program would know to do. Can you download a "nightly" build and see if the problem repros there (with and without steam)? If you can repro on a nightly build then I'll push a commit that does the "cookie" thing and we'll see if it fixes it.

I had this issue as well, and here's what worked for me.I enabled Switch Pro Controller configuration in Steam, and added Desmume to Steam as a non-steam game.Then when I launch Desmume through Steam, the controller works perfectly.I also had to make sure my desktop controller configuration in steam was set to a default gamepad layout, because for some reason that's what it uses when desmume is focused (not the game-specific config)

OS: Ubuntu 12.04 x86-64 I'm running v 1.8.0.dfsg-0.1 of VBA (not VBA express, installed via synaptic) and I'm noticing that my wired xbox 360 controller (USB) isn't recognised and that no button works in joypad config. To troubleshoot, I went through the follwoing steps: Googled. I found one thread linking to Ubuntu's page on 360 drivers. But you'll see below that that isn't necessary.
