Once they've met the Duke in Gran Soren, Dragon's Dogma players have an opportunity to unlock new goods from the merchant Caxton depending on how they go through with his quest. In "Idol Worship," From his stall in Fountain Square, Caxton asks for an Idol to increase his standing with the local merchants. The better the Idol he receives, the better goods he will be able to sell later on.

This guide breaks down how to get each of the possible idols to bring Caxton as well as what he will sell as a result. Be warned - you can only ever give Caxton one idol, so if you find a better one after you've already completed this quest you're out of luck.

Where To Find The Bronze Idol

Dragon's Dogma: Idol Worship Quest Walkthrough (1)

There are two Bronze Idols in the game - one at Hillfigure Knoll in the Dragonforged's lair, and another inside the Witch's House in Witchwood. Either will satisfy Caxton's request. Bringing Caxton a Bronze Idol will allow him to sell the following:

  • Direwolf Bow (Shortbow)
  • Eden's Warden (Sword)
  • Feather-Light Pelta (Shield)
  • Magick Buckler (Magick Shield)
  • Obliteratrix (Mace)
  • Scalding Razors (Dagger)
  • Thunderclap (Staff)

This quest becomes available at the same time as Idol Worship (after you've met the Duke) and can be obtained from the notice board at the Pawn Guild. Defeat the Cyclops lurking in the tunnels under the Shadow Fort to earn the Silver Idol. With a Silver Idol, Caxton can sell the following:

  • Bespoke Longbow (Longbow)
  • Caladbolg (Sword)
  • Crescending Roar (Mace)
  • Crimson Teeth (Dagger)
  • Divine Axis (Staff)

Where To Find The Gold Idol

Dragon's Dogma: Idol Worship Quest Walkthrough (3)

There is only a single Gold Idol in the game, and you're not guaranteed to get it. After completing the Land of Opportunity quest, speak with Fournival at his house. He will ask you to chaperone his daughter Symone as she walks around the city.

Completing this quest perfectly is the only way to obtain a Gold Idol. Be sure you're ready before speaking to Symone - specifically, you need to have a Flask of Water in your inventory. After collecting your reward from Fournival, speak to Symone again. If you did everything right, she will give you the Gold Idol.

Keeping Symone Happy

Do

Don't

Agree to begin the walk the first time you speak with Symone.

Leave Gran Soren after accepting the quest from Fournival (doing so causes the quest to fail)

Quickly win Symone's game of hide-and-seek in Fountain Square. Her hiding place is randomly chosen from two options:

  • Near the fireplace at Union Inn, hiding behind Asalam
  • Behind Arsmith's Alehouse

Bump into Symone (she stops abruptly so be careful)

Give Symone a Flask of Water when she stops to ask for one at the gates to the Craftsman's Quarter

Wander too far from Symone

Let Symone win the foot race.

Let Symone win the foot race by too much.

Gold Idol Inventory

Giving Caxton the Gold Idol adds the following items to his inventory:

  • Algid Bloom (Staff)
  • Almace (Sword)
  • Ardent Will (Longsword)
  • Galvanic Razors (Dagger)
  • Gimble Gyre (Magick Bow)
  • Orilux Shield (Shield)
  • Pleached Limbs (Shortbow)
  • Rooted Gloom (Warhammer)
  • Stagnant Surge (Archistaff)
  • Thousand Stings (Mace)
  • Thunder Kite Shield (Magick Shield)
  • Veteran's Arc (Longbow)

Caveats

Dragon's Dogma: Idol Worship Quest Walkthrough (4)

You can make a forgery of any of the Idols at the Black Cat. These will earn you a discount at Caxton's shop but will not enhance his inventory. Alternatively, you can get a Forged Gold Idol from within Fournival's house for free.

Another thing to bear in mind is that another merchant in Gran Soren, Madeleine, is also looking for an Idol. Her shop will also change its inventory based on which Idol she receives. In the best-case scenario, you will have to choose who gets the Gold Idol and who gets the Silver Idol since there is only one of each.
